After 9 years of sponsoring a precious little girl through Compassion International, I finally met her in Colombia. The moment I saw Sharay, we went to each other, hugged and I started crying...her mother did too! Sharay refers to me as her Godmother and it was such a beautiful and emotional moment.
We spent the whole day together, and I got to experience so many firsts with her--her first time in a pool, playing arcade games, riding a go-kart, even tubing down a hill. I'll always remember her laughter and seeing her joy in those moments.
I was also very impressed with Compassion International. Everything was so well organized and having a personal interpreter made it so easy to truly connect and just be present.
Sharay is thriving in school, loves biology and dreams of becoming a doctor or teacher. Because of sponsorship, her life is being changed through education, healthcare and personal care she wouldn't otherwise have.
We also spent time at the Church/Community Center. CCV planted 14 centers in Colombia. The one we were at was planted by East Mesa...115 children at the center being loved, taught, and supported. Their joy and faith deeply impacted me.
This Mission trip changed me. I went thinking I was going to give....but I came home realizing how much I received.
